This 3-Quart enamel covered casserole is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration and freezing. The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on gas, electric, ceramic and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames. Not for use in microwaves. Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating bottom sidewalls and even the lid. Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture. The excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking. Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip resistant and easy to clean. Lid knob is oven safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron. Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food. Bumpy beginning but excellent outcome! The first covered casserole I received had a bulge on the bottom and would not set flat on the burner. I called lodge to see if that was normal and they told me it should set flat, and recommended that I return it. The second casserole I received was perfect! It works wonderfully well as an open or covered skillet as well as it’s intended purpose of a casserole. I washed it thoroughly and applied a small amount of oil or butter before using it. Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Covered Casserole Does not Disappoint! OK, I got this casserole instead of the LC. I have wanted LC for quite some time, but they were cost prohibitive. So after much research, I decided to try the Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Covered Casserole. I prepared some chicken in the casserole, and I immediately noticed the chicken’s appearance was delicious. Nice cast iron piece but came damaged. It came chipped, small but still there. I had already got rid of original packaging before I saw the chip or I would have sent it back. I’m very careful with my cookware, never stacking so I no I didn’t do it. I also hadn’t use the lid yet, so it wasn’t that. I have use it and is very pleased with the results.
