Very handy for grilling meats and some vegetables. Great size for a lid. We wondered if we’d use it, but its turned out to be great. For a first cast iron I’d recommend the 12″ or 10″ Lodge regular cast iron skillet, but this pan provides a useful option. There are lots of times when its nice to cook meats in particular above the oil. This pan does great. Filet Mignon will melt in your mouth! I love this Grill Pan! It comes preseasoned but I rinsed, salted, rinsed and reseasoned prior to first use. I have used the pan 2 times and seasoned it more with avocado oil, butter and rendered bacon grease. I made the best filet mignon I’ve ever had and I’ve had many in some of the finest restaurants across the country.
