  1. Solid Quality Cast Iron!! Let me preface this by saying I have been using cast iron pans pots and dutch ovens for years now ALL my cookware is cast. Most of it I inherited from my great grandmothers so these pieces have been in my family for years!   2. MM MM Good I quit using cast iron pans because they were too heavy, especially with food in them as, I got older. I was afraid of dropping hot dinner all over me. I bought this pan as soon as I saw the extra grip handle. I made pineapple upside down cake and a taco casserole with cornbread topping the day it arrived and we had a great dinner. Suffice to say, that I am well aware that a cast iron pan is not the same in terms of caring and cleaning.
